Providing the opportunities to broaden the mind of international and Japanese students through academic international exchanges, we help them design their global carrier in their own fields. Let’s speak out your future dream!(1)Making strategic networks with universities advanced in the fields of education and research valuable to Shimane University(2)Increasing the number of researchers and students studying abroad(3)Enforcement of support system for foreign researchers and students To promote our joint research and train young researchers, annual interdisciplinary international seminars have been held since 2002; also, an academic network for studying in western China is being planned with the participating Northwest A & F University (Xi`an). In 2014, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the International Joint Research Institute of Shimane University and Ningxia University by inviting many guests to Shimane University. We launched the next period of collaboration to enhance the sphere of joint research and to contribute to the appropriate development of rural areas and human welfare in both countries.30International Joint Research Institute of Shimane University and Ningxia UniversityIn 1987, Professor Izumi Kitagawa, Faculty of Agriculture at Shimane University, visited the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region for the first time as a foreign researcher to conduct collaborative research on rural development. This collaborative research led to the creation of, an academic relationship between Shimane University and Ningxia University.At the 10th anniversary of this relationship, the two universities contracted an academic exchange agreement. In 2005, a research institute building was established at the Ningxia University campus to promote our research activities and was supported by JICA. It is unique Japanese-Chinese joint research institute located in the western region of China. To strengthen our partnership, much time and effort has been dedicated by the staff of the institute. Studies on rural development, ecology and comparative studies on less-favored areas in both of Japan and China, and agricultural production systems are being conducted as the joint research projects are aiming to be a center for regional research in western China. Moreover, the joint research institute library, which holds around 3,000 Japanese books, was established in October 2013.The Center for International Exchanges For the purpose of fostering human resources in global society, we face to the need to promote understanding and friendly relations with foreign countries and keep stable international exchanges with academic institutions. Based on the spirit of Shimane University’s Charter, we are committed to provide the opportunities of going abroad and world-class education incorporating with foreign partner universities and local communities in the following manner.
