44Matsue is a small calm, quiet and clean city which is good to live in community. Here I have seen a rich and distinct cultural essence. Sometimes interactions with Japanese neighbors also create good chance to learn Japanese cultures and traditions. Politeness, modesty and hardworking attitude are the most distinctive features of the Japanese Society that we all should admire and adopt. Seasonal and cultural festivals like “Omatsuri”, fireworks at “Lake Shinji”, Peony flower festival at Daikonjima are memorable to me. Sea beaches like Kashima in Matsue, Kirarataki in Izumo, and Sakaiminato in Yonago are famous places for visiting with my friends and families. The healthy Japanese diet is often believed to be related to the longevity of Japanese people. Although it was difficult for me to eat some Japanese traditional foods, but fresh fruits and vegetables, fishes and varieties of drinks were very enjoyable. Dishes such as sushi, tempura and ramen have become my favorite food. Japan is very safe country to live in and would be the best choice for students from Bangladesh. One can experience here both the rich ancient culture and modern city facilities. Therefore, living in Shimane would give international students an opportunity of higher studies and research in Shimane University. Teachers and researchers of this university are doing original and interesting work addressing local and regional challenges. It is offering excellent interventional exchange programs with Asian and other foreign countries. Moreover, scholarship opportunities provided by the university and the Japanese government open the windows to higher education here. Asaduzzaman (Bangladesh)Shimane University Foreign Researcher (JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow), Asao LaboratoryShimane University is a centre of excellence where I have completed my doctoral course and currently doing research under JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship. I have started my higher studies in this university under Japanese Govt. (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship in 2008. At the beginning it was difficult for me to adjust with the culture and environment in Matsue but gradually my life became convenient with the help of cooperative teachers, university staffs and general Japanese people. My research is in Honjo Farmlands in Education and Research Center for Biological Resources, little far from the main campus but I have a very lovely and enjoyable research environment with Japanese students. They are very gentle, friendly and cooperative. Support from international student section was excellent for smooth completion of my higher studies in Shimane University. They often arrange cultural and excursion tours for international students which provide great opportunities to learn Japanese cultures and peoples through site seeing, home staying, participating English Summer School programs etc. Staying with many international students from diverse nationalities provide opportunities of international exchange, making friends and an ideal intercultural educational environment. Besides taking part in volunteer activities with Matsue Community Police was rare experience for the international students like me. Matsue International Community Centre (MICC) and Shimane International Center (SIC) organized several events for international residence are essential and useful for daily life.
