On Monday, June 22, 2026, Dr. S. Vaidhyasubramaniam, Vice-Chancellor of SASTRA University visited Shimane University.
He held a cordial meeting with Prof. Kataoka, Vice President for Promotion of Globalization and Dr. Noothalapati, Director of the Japan-India Global Education and Research Center, exchanging views on potential future collaboration between the two universities.
Subsequently, he met with President Otani to discuss broad perspectives regarding the future of education and research at both institutions.
In particular, a positive consensus was reached regarding the development of a collaborative relationship in the fields of humanities and social sciences, raising expectations for expanded exchange between the two universities.
Dr. Vaidhyasubramaniam also expressed interest in the Shimane region, noting its distinct environment and culture compared to urban areas.
Discussions touched upon the potential for deepening mutual understanding by viewing the regional cultures of both areas, such as Shimane's local characteristics and India's culture rooted in wide religion and rural life as significant subjects for research.
While exchanges between our university and partner institutions in India have historically focused on the natural sciences and STEM fields, this visit paves the way for future expansion into the humanities and social sciences.
It is hoped that this visit will serve as a catalyst for deepening ties and fostering fruitful collaboration across a range of fields.
