As previously reported, the novel coronavirus associated with pneumonia, which first appeared in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, has been spreading in Beijing and outside of China.

On Friday, January 31, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs raised the level of infectious disease risk information. As such, for the time being, we request that you respond as follows.

1.Cancel Shimane University faculty, staff and student travel to Hubei, China (including private travel), and refrain from non-urgent travel to all parts of China, even outside Hubei (including Hong Kong).

2.From February 1, 2020, the novel coronavirus has been labeled as a designated infectious disease, and students, faculty and staff diagnosed with the infectious disease will be suspended from attending classes and/or work until they are cured. Please follow the instructions below in order to thoroughly carry out infectious disease control within the university.

3.For students, faculty and staff who have returned from China to Japan, and persons who have come into close contact with above person, please contact the relevant department by phone or e-mail based on the flowchart titled "Students, Faculty and Staff who have Returned from China to Japan, and Persons who have Come into Close Contact with Above Person (Feb. 6, 2020)". The personal information collected by the relevant department will only be used for infectious disease prevention measures. Information may be provided at the request of public authorities such as health centers, but no information will be released for any other purpose without the individual's consent.

5.If you have a fever and/or respiratory symptoms within two weeks of entering Japan, please immediately contact your campus’ Health Service Center by telephone or e-mail and receive a health check at the medical institution specified by the Health Service Center.

6.Even if you have no symptoms within 2 weeks after returning to Japan, keep a close eye on your health while recording your body temperature and symptoms on the Self-Health Checklist. During that time, please refrain from going out and stay at home. If symptoms do not appear after 2 weeks, please contact the Health Service Center at your campus by telephone or e-mail.
